How to Stay Safe from COVID When Leaving the House

Businesses, schools, gyms, and other public places throughout the country are currently closed to help prevent the COVID-19 pandemic from spreading. Government leaders, healthcare experts, and providers of urgent care in Cleveland, Ohio are enforcing these measures to keep people at home.

However, you may find yourself needing to leave your house to get groceries or obtain urgent laboratory services. If so, then you need to adopt the following measures to keep yourself and those around you safe from the coronavirus:

  • Avoid using your hands to touch things.
Keep your hands away from germs. If you need to push a button, use your knuckles or elbows instead. You can also use your hip or shoulder to open doors.
  • Be careful where you put your phone.
While it is good to disinfect your phone regularly, why not avoid putting your device on questionable surfaces, too? As much as possible, do not bring your phone with you to the bathroom stall. If you do expose your phone to shared surfaces, set it on a napkin. It can help you stop disinfecting your phone so frequently.
  • Do not use your bare hands to browse through produce.
When inspecting produce, use a glove or a fresh bag. This will keep you from touching each one with your hands. Sure, you may get some odd looks, but it will keep you safe. When you get home, wash the produce—and your hands—thoroughly.
  • Practice social distancing when greeting people.
If you do see a friend or family member while you are outside, refrain from giving them a handshake or hug. Do not do elbow bumps, either. Instead, you can just wave from a safe distance. You may feel fine personally, but social distancing is an effective way to keep those around you safe from the virus.

Our team at Cleveland Urgent Care strongly encourages you to stay at home. But these tips above will help you when you do have to leave home to buy medicine, food, and supplies.
